For years, I believed financial security came from having a good job, working hard, and doing all the "right" things.

Then life taught me otherwise.

After experiencing multiple unexpected job losses throughout my corporate career, I learned how quickly circumstances can change. No matter how stable things seem, financial security can be disrupted in ways we never see coming.

That realization became even more personal when I looked at my own family.

My granddad passed away long before I was born, but because he planned ahead, my grandma wasn't left financially devastated. She was able to move forward without carrying the full burden of funeral expenses and other financial responsibilities on her own.

Fast forward to now, watching my grandma's battle with dementia reinforced another important lesson. If she had waited until her health changed to put protection in place, many of the options available to her years earlier would no longer exist.

Those experiences showed me two things:
